Report of victory for under 17s

Posted : 11th February 2017 at 10:06:55

Linfield 17's travelled to Lurgan on Friday night to take on a strong Glenavon side, in what proved to be a pulsating game of football. Glenavon started the brighter of the two sides with some neat passing football and had the first effort of the game on 17 minutes, which Josh Brownlee dealt with comfortably in the Linfield goal. The wee Blues got a scare 5 minutes later when a whipped in corner was cleared of the line. The Blues hit their opponents with a lovely counter attack at pace. Pablo Andradre broke away on the left and played to Callum Brown who brushed aside his marker, he picked out Dean Truesdale who timed his run perfectly into the box and Truesdale thumped home. This spurned Linfield into life and Alex McIlmail had his shot well saved. Glenavon then hit Linfield on the counter attack, a threaded ball was played behind the Linfield backline, who had been excellent all night. Jack O'Mahony got himself in a great position 1 on 1 with Brownlee in the Linfield goal but the big Linfield stopper pulled off an excellent save to deny him an equaliser. Linfield then had another McIlmail effort well saved as the game went from end to end.

Halftime Glenavon 0-1 Linfield

The second half started pretty much the same as the first with Glenavon dominating possession. They got their equaliser on 45 minutes and it was well deserved. Four minutes later Linfield were back in front. Pablo Andradre played in an inch perfect free kick which was met by Alex McIlmail who thundered into the net against his former suitors. Six minutes later it was 3-1. Gerard Maguire combined well with Adam Neilly, the ball was sprayed wide to Pablo Andradre he played an inch perfect cross into the box and Central Defender Jack Maguire hammered home. Callum Brown then saw a great 25 yard effort go narrowly over the bar. Glenavon then won a free kick on the Linfield left and as the ball was whipped in it was bundled into the back of the net. Both teams had efforts well saved but Linfield defended well from the front to take all 3 points in a game which was a great advertisement for the NIBFA.

Final Score. Glenavon U17 2-3 Linfield

A massive big thank you to Lurgan High School youth club who allowed the U17 to use their games room as a changing room as there were none available. The youth workers were excellent and very accommodating and they couldn't have done enough for the lads. Sent from my iPhone
