On Saturday morning Linfield under 16s defeated Cliftonville 4-1 at New Midgley Park to start the season with 9 wins from 9 in the new NIFL Academy league.
But this was more than an ordinary win, as it saw the Linfield 2003 squad now complete a FULL Calendar year unbeaten - not losing a single domestic match as the last defeat was a game back on 28th November 2017. Since then the young Blues went on a run which saw them claw back 15 points on Greenisland to win last season’s National league title, as well as both the National league Cup and the NIBFA Cup to complete the treble.
Colin Mcilwrath (head coach) would like to thank coach Darren (speedy) McKinley and team attendants Neil and Josh McCrum, GK Coach Willy and physio Kyle and also the whole 2004 Squad and staff, as they been lending us players, for their massive help in this amazing achievement. A very special word of thanks to all the Players who have worked so hard as a squad and stuck together with the help of their parents, to attend training and games all over the Country.
Going a full year unbeaten is a fine Achievement and all concerned deserve credit and our club’s supporters will be pleased to learn of the excellent talent that is coming through the academy ranks not just with this unbeaten in a calendar year team but also with a number of other good squads also coming through the system.
