Linfield 2008 squad travel to London to take on QPR
Last weekend the Academy 2008s enjoyed a trip to London where they took part in a friendly game vs the Queens Park Rangers 2008 squad and then were invited along to Loftus Road to take in the Queens Park Rangers first team play their last home game of the season vs Martin O’Neill’s Nottingham Forest side. Below are a selection of images from the weekend trip.
A special word of thanks to ex Linfield star Paul Smyth who helped the two clubs get in contact with each other and also to Manisha Tailor of QPR who was a great help both throughout the planning of the trip and also facilitating our squad during the weekend.
During the game the two sides played out a very entertaining game with some great football played by both sides with the Linfield 2008 squad running out 7-2 winners at the end of a great display.
The boys then were fortunate enough to meet the QPR squad after the game as they made their way back on board the team bus, with many using this opportunity for photos and autographs.
This was the second cross-channel trip the boys have been on after having a similar experience north of the border with Glasgow Rangers in February 2018.
One of the Linfield Academy coaches Kyle Dawson commented “our thanks go to QPR who treated our squad brilliantly from the first moments we were in contact, we can’t thank them enough for the standard and experiences gained by our boys from the weekend. Special thanks to Tom Carrol who also took our boys for a technical training session on the Sunday morning before our boys were also special guests of the academy for their 3 games against Millwall. This was a great weekend to show the boys how full time setups are run across the water.”
Before leaving for the journey back to Belfast, ex- QPR manager and current Technical Director Chris Ramsey spoke to the boys and presented the boys with a shirt in recognition of their trip and the growing friendship between the two clubs.
