David was with Maiden City Academy as a 14 year old from 2002 until 2005 when he signed for Sheffield Wednesday. He spent 18 months there before returning to Institute in 2007.

Whitey Anderson brought David Kee to Ballinamallard in January 2009 and made him a key member of the team that won the Fermanagh club's historic promotion by winning the Championship 1 title in 2011/12 and helped keep the Mallards in the Premiership successfully for the next three seasons. David was Ballinamallard Player of the Year in 2013/14.

In announcing on April 20, 2015 that David and his team mate Mark Stafford had signed pre-contracts to join Linfield Whitey Anderson stated “I have known Mark Stafford for over 20 years, and Davy Kee has been at Ballinamallard for over 6 years. They are two fine young men with great ability and integrity."

Linfield announced on April 20, 2015 that David had signed a pre-contract to join Linfield at the end of the 2014/15 season.

Debut in a 2-0 home win against NSI Runavik in the Europa League on July 2, 2015.

First goal was a free kick in a 2-1 defeat away to Spartak Trnava in Slovakia in the Europa League on July 16, 2015.

Played what turned out to be his final game as a sub in a home 1-0 Europa League defeat by Cork City on June 30, 2016.

Joined Coleraine on a season long loan and was appointed their captain on August 2, 2016.

Signed a permanent one year contract at Coleraine in May 2017 on the expiry of his loan spell.
