Linfieldfc.com spoke to 19 year old Linfield Ladies full international star striker Kirsty McGuinness after Saturday night‘s Coca Cola IFA Cup Final victory.
“That is the best feeling in the world. There is no better feeling than winning the Irish Cup here tonight. We‘ve beaten the top 2 teams in the semis and in the final to win this trophy, so it‘s a great achievement for everyone at the club.
The team has done superbly well to reach 3 Cup finals and it’s incredible to have won 2 of them. We’re just so happy to have won this trophy tonight. This was the big one and this was the one we wanted the most and thankfully, it‘s the trophy we‘ve now got.
We played really well here tonight and we deserved the victory. To stop a really good team like Crusaders playing and creating chances was a great achievement. We all worked hard and put them under a lot of pressure and we’ve got our rewards with this trophy tonight.
It’s great to get on the score sheet and it‘s great to have contributed towards the team’s success. I just had to keep my nerve and score that penalty on a big showpiece occasion like tonight’s game. It was a great feeling when the ball hit the back of the net, as we needed a 2nd goal and it put us in a great position at 2-0 ahead.
It’s great that Coca Cola is the sponsor of the competition, as they’ve given us a few bottles of diet coke to celebrate this great success with tonight. I think we’ll all have a good night, as everybody is buzzing after this special victory in the biggest game of the season for us.
It means we finish our season on a real high and it’s great reward for all the hard work the staff and players have put in throughout the season.”
