Robert Garrett speaks to

Posted : 16th December 2013

Midfielder Robert Garrett spoke to Roy McGivern from after today's Irish Cup draw at the Grand Opera House.

Garrett confessed that he knew little of Championship opponents Dergview but was hopeful of using family connections to glean some information on the County Tyrone side.

"My brother has played in the Championship with H&W Welders so I hope that he will be able to tell me something about them. They will relish coming to Windsor Park for this tie and if we are not at the top of our game then they will be capable of punishing us. I know that we have an important league game against Crusaders a few days after the Irish Cup game but I'm sure that the manager will want to put out a strong team as he will not want to leave any room for error."

After returning from a loan spell with Canadian side FC Edmonton, Garrett is fully focused on getting back into the Linfield squad from January. The tenacious midfielder has an impressive Irish Cup record with the Blues, having played in three winning finals for the club.

"All I am focused on is getting myself as fit as possible so that I am able to hit the ground running in January. It will not be an easy task getting into the side as they have been doing well this season. I enjoyed my spell in Canada although it was a very different style compared to the Irish League. The philosophy for teams out there is to keep possession of the ball and to retain it for as long as possible. Over here you find a lot more challenges going in and you don't really get as much time on the ball. I think I benefited from full-time football again but now I will have to re-adjust and do as much training on my own as possible. It should be an exciting end to the season and I am really looking forward to playing my part in it."
