Hugely talented left winger and Leading Goal scorer Kirsty McGuinness spoke to Linfieldfc.com after helping her team to a remarkable Triple Crown of Cup successes at Solitude on Saturday night.
"It's a brilliant feeling winning the League cup tonight. This was a cup we didn't win last year, so it means a lot winning it tonight for the first time. We were determined to go out and win the cup tonight and we are absolutely delighted to have won another cup.
It's fantastic to have won the 3 cups this year. It's been a brilliant achievement and it's just a pity we didn't win the league but we came close and 2nd place is our highest ever league finish, so all in all it's been a great season.
I love scoring goals and it was a really important first goal tonight. Glentoran had been on top but Sarah Venney slipped a great ball through to me and I just put my head down and aimed at the goal and thankfully, it fairly flew into the back of the net. It was a crucial goal coming at a really important time on the stroke of half time, as it gave us added belief in the second half that we could go on and win.
I've no idea if the second goal was mine or not. A few people are saying that my corner went straight in and a few others are saying that Ashley Hutton or a Glentoran player got the final touch. It doesn't really matter, as the important thing was that the ball ended up in the net and thankfully, we were able to see the game out to win 2-0 and collect the trophy.
It's a nice way to finish our season on a real high and send the manager off to his new post in Russia with a real spring in his step. He's a really good manager and coach and we all wish him all the best in his new role and hopefully he'll be back with us next season to help us defend these trophies we've been delighted to win this year.
We'll all enjoy our celebrations tonight. It's been our best season ever. Last year was great winning 2 cups and this year has been even better winning 3 cups. It'll be hard to try and match or beat this next season but we'll just enjoy the break and approach next season in our usual way - aiming to win every game we play and we'll see where that takes us.
Glentoran made it really difficult for us tonight. They are a great team that has won this league and League cup for a lot of years, so we knew we were in for a tough battle tonight. They had plenty of the ball and they had a few chances but our goalkeeper and defence were superb. We had a 15 year old in Lauren Robson playing left back in her 2nd major cup final in a matter of weeks and I thought she was just outstanding."
