Reece Neale discusses his move to Ards
Posted : 12th January 2018
Linfieldfc.com Jamie Megarry spoke with Reece Neale following the young full-back's decision to sign for Ards, as announced earlier today.
As a lifelong Linfield supporter, Linfield Swifts captain Reece Neale says it was a tough decision to move on, as he penned a move to Ards FC following six years progressing through the Linfield Academy set-up.
“It wasn’t easy leaving the Blues. It was a very tough decision to make but sometimes these things have to be done.”
Neale enjoyed seven successful seasons through various age groups at Linfield and helped the Swifts lift the Steel and Sons Cup for the first time since 1997 on Christmas Eve 2016. Despite the 19 year-old’s affection for the Club, the prospect of first team football with Ards was an opportunity he felt he couldn’t turn down, as he aims to progress his career.
“Obviously, being at Linfield you want to make the first team, which I’ve been trying to do but I just didn’t get the lucky break that I needed. However, I feel that this is the right decision to go elsewhere and get experience in first team football with Ards in the Irish League. I am optimistic that this is the opportunity that’s going to help me progress with my career and then we will see where it takes me.”
The Ballynahinch native finished by thanking everyone associated with the Club and wished Linfield all the best for the future, whilst assuring everyone he will always be a supporter of the Blues.
“I’d like to thank everyone who was involved with me at Linfield for their help and support throughout the years I’ve spent here. I have made some amazing memories and just want to wish everyone at the Club all the best for the future. I will always be a Linfield supporter.”
Best wishes to Reece and team mate Timmy Browne as they move on to try and progress their promising careers in first team football with Ards after their Academy spells at Linfield.
