Jamie Mulgrew - "delighted to sign contract extension"

Posted : 10th February 2018

Jamie Mulgrew is delighted to extend his contract with Linfield for 2 more years.

"I'm absolutely delighted that the manager and the club have offered me another contract to stay here for a further two years.

It's always been a privilege and honour for me to play for this club and it will be a pleasure for me to continue to play for and represent this great club.

Tuesday night was wonderful because we played well and won an important game 3-1 but I want to thank everyone who has sent me kind, congratulatory messages after I played my 500th game for the club. The tributes have been very special and very much appreciated.

I'm deeply honoured and humbled to have been chosen to play for this club 500 times and to now be in a very small group of important players who've played for this club more than 500 times. It's particularly special to me as three of the players - Noel Bailie MBE, William Murphy and Glenn Ferguson were at this club when I started my career here and they and others were a huge and positive influence on me during my time here.

The past few days have been special because I know it's a significant landmark to play 500 games for this club and I know that today will be special too, as the club and Umbro are planning very kind and much appreciated presentations. I want to thank Howard from Umbro for coming over from England today but I want our supporters to know that as nice as all the personal accolades are, today will be special if we win and my focus as always will be on doing all in my power to try and ensure that we get the win that we really need to push us further up the league table.

It's lovely that as the club presents me with this award today to recognise the landmark of 500 Linfield games, the club has also agreed and announced a new contract for me to extend my stay here.

I love playing for Linfield and I love captaining Linfield. I want to thank all my team mates, past and present, my managers and coaches past and present, the directors and staff past and present and of course, all our wonderful supporters for all their encouragement over the years.

We all loved lifting three trophies last season and this new two year contract gives me more opportunities to try and win more trophies for this wonderful club and institution."
