Alfie Wylie returned to the Linfield dug-out today, after a week in which he guided Northern Ireland Ladies to a sensational 3-1 win against Norway last Saturday at Mourneview Park, while only a last gasp equaliser deprived Alfie's team of another win in Hungary in midweek. One of the stars of the national team is 17 year old Linfield Ladies star, Kirsty McGuinness. Linfieldfc.com spoke to Alfie Wylie after today's game at Seaview about the major contribution Kirsty is making to the national team.
"Kirsty is a very exciting prospect. She scored a great goal last Saturday night against Norway to set us on the road to a fantastic 3-1 victory. She also took the corner to set up our 2nd goal. It was great delivery to the back post. She showed great strength on what was a cold, heavy night.
On Wednesday in Hungary, Kirsty and the rest of the girls turned in another unbelievable performance, both from an attacking point of view and also defensively. Kirsty doubled up siperbly with our left back when Hungary were putting us under great pressure. I'm really delighted with her progress. She's still only 17 years of age and she's a really exciting talent.
There are quite a number of talented young players coming through at Linfield Ladies. It's really exciting that these young players like Kirsty are developing so well at Linfield Ladies. It's good that Linfield Ladies are producing such good young players. Kirsty is one of many coming through the set up at Linfield Ladies and it's great to see."
