Submitted : 26th April 2014 at 5:00:00 PM

The Board of Directors of Linfield FC is pleased to announce that Warren Feeney has been appointed to take over as manager of the club with effect from May 1st.

Warren has considerable experience and pedigree from his playing career, both at club and international level and is a lifelong Linfield supporter who impressed the club directors greatly at interview with his enthusiasm, vision and ambition for the future of the club.

Warren will discuss his appointment with the media on Tuesday and he will have an opportunity to introduce himself to club members at Friday night's AGM in the Viewing Lounge.

Congratulations and every best wish to Warren, as he embarks on this new challenge ahead and the Board of Directors know that our supporters will give him their full backing and a warm Linfield welcome.

Statement from Warren Feeney

I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as manager of Linfield FC. I have been a lifelong supporter of the club and it will be a huge honour and a privilege for me to manage this great club.

I will be meeting with the players, staff, and directors as soon as possible and I cannot wait to get started in my new role.

I am well aware of the demands, pressures and expectations at Linfield and I will be doing all in my power to help bring success to the club.

With the stadium set to undergo major redevelopment in the coming months, this is undoubtedly a period of great change at the club but this is a hugely exciting challenge for me and one that I will approach with enthusiasm and full confidence in the staff and players I will be working with.

I will also look forward to meeting as many of our supporters as possible over the course of the coming months.

I will discuss my appointment further on Tuesday.

Warren Feeney - A Football Career

Warren's father, Warren Senior, was playing for Linfield when he was born on January 17, 1981.

Warren attended Ashfield Boys' School in East Belfast and has been a lifelong Linfield supporter who played in the Linfield Rangers team that won the IFA Youth Cup in the 1996-97, season, when he was aged just 16 years-old.

He then joined Leeds United before going on to play for Bournemouth, Stockport County, Luton Town, Cardiff City, Swansea City, Dundee United, Sheffield Wednesday, Oldham Athletic and Plymouth Argyle.

When he made his debut for the Northern Ireland international team, he became the third generation of his family to receive an international cap, after his father Warren and grandfather Jim.

As well as playing for the U15, U16, U18 and U21 international teams, he also won 46 full international caps, scoring 5 goals - all of which were at Windsor Park.

He scored his first international goal against Azerbaijan in September 2005, also netting in a friendly against Portugal. His third goal came against Denmark in a Euro 2008 Qualifier, heading in an equaliser in a famous 2-1 win on a wet night at Windsor Park. In March 2009 he scored in a 3-2 win against Poland in a World Cup qualifier and in April 2009, Feeney scored the only goal of the game as Northern Ireland beat Slovenia 10, also in a World Cup Qualifier.

He has been player assistant manager of Conference side Salisbury City for the past 9 months.
