Alex Russell Stand reverts back to "Kop Stand" name Back to Latest News Index

Several years ago the Special Efforts' Committee ran a competition, the first prize for which was the opportunity to re-name the "Kop Stand" at Windsor Park after a Linfield legend of your choice. The re-naming of the "Kop Stand" was to last for one year.

The competition winner decided to re-name the "Kop Stand", "The Alex Russell Stand" and so it has remained for approximately four years, considerably longer than was originally envisaged.

However, the club has now decided to revert back to the original "Kop Stand" name and so from now on, what was known as the "Alex Russell Stand" will once again become known as "The Kop Stand".

Alex Russell, the former Linfield goalkeeper from the sixties has been informed of the change and the wording "The Alex Russell Stand" has been removed from its usual position at the front of the stand.

Later today, LinfieldFC.com will report a new commercial arrangement involving the "Kop Stand" but which will not affect the name, "The Kop Stand".
