Preview of Saturday’s Windsor Park League game

Match day seven of the Danske Bank NIFL Premiership sees Linfield welcome Dungannon Swifts FC to Windsor Park (3pm ko). Last season the Blues won both home and away and then shared the points when the teams played out a scoreless draw in Belfast.

It was a case of 'goals ahoy!' in last week's Premiership game as Linfield dropped anchor at basement club Warrenpoint Town to net five in a resounding victory (5-0). The Blues took control early on, pushing relentlessly forward onto a fragile looking Warrenpoint back line which first buckled after only three minutes. The Blues certainly benefitted from playing an early season fixture on a Milltown pitch which in the past has been very heavy going during the winter months. The fine playing surface suited the free flowing, ball to feet style of play favoured by this Linfield side. A thoroughly professional away day performance which elevated the Blues back once more to the top of the Premiership table.

Dungannon Swifts come to Windsor in eleventh place in the table and still looking for their first league win of the season. In their last outing they had very credible draw (0-0) with Institute at the Brandywell. Manager Rodney McAree would have certainly been hoping for a more solid start as he looks to build on last season's league campaign, which saw his side fall just short of a European play-off tie. The Tyrone side also lifted their first ever senior trophy when defeating Ballymena United in the League Cup Final (3-1).

Linfield's unbeaten start the season has been built largely around a rock solid defence, which has been breached just once, when the team was reduced to ten men at Cliftonville. Dungannon are finding goals to be at a premium, having found the net just three times in five league games. With this in mind, David may well be expecting to face a well organised Swifts side sitting deep but set up to strike quickly on the counter attack. Having witnessed a five star performance from his side at Warrenpoint, the Linfield manager will certainly be looking for more of the same on Saturday. COYB!
