Colin Coates dispossessed Stewart but the ball fell for Peter Thompson who made no mistake slotting the ball past Kerr for his thirtieth goal of the season.

Crusaders pulled level in the 54th minute after Alan Mannus did well to palm away a shot but David Rainey was there to hit the loose ball home.

With fifteen minutes left the Crues were in the lead when Brown made no mistake smashing the ball past Mannus.

With five minutes left Linfield drew level. From a Mark Dickson corner Oran Kearney headed the ball across goal. There was Glenn Ferguson to head home for his two hundred and fiftieth Linfield goal, and his five hundredth career goal.

Minutes later Linfield took the lead and it was that man Ferguson again. Stewart held the ball up in the box and the ball broke for Ferguson who smashed home from close range to win the cup in dramatic last gasp fashion for Linfield.
