It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that Linfield FC announces the sad passing of the legendary former Linfield centre forward, Sammy Pavis.

Sammy was admitted to the Ulster hospital on Tuesday morning and soon transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital, where he sadly passed away at 8am this morning.

Sammy was affectionately known as Sammy ‘Save us’ Pavis, as the supporters looked to Sammy to score the goals to ‘save us’ from many a tricky situation on the pitch.

Sammy was inducted into the Linfield Hall of Fame when legendary status was bestowed on him, by the award of the prestigious Torrans Trophy just over a year ago.

Fuller tributes regarding Sammy’s playing career in the 1960s will be forthcoming later today.

Funeral arrangements will be provided when the family have confirmed the details.

Linfield will pay tribute to Sammy, by way of a minute’s silence before Saturday’s game against St Johnstone and the players will also wear black armbands in the game.

The deepest sympathy of everyone at Linfield FC is extended to Sammy's wife Freda, sons Frederick and Sammy Junior and the wider family circle at this sad time.
