Posted : 19th January 2020 at 22:18:04

It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that Linfield FC announces the news of the sad passing of Ken Gilliland, one of the 1961/62 Seven Trophy Legends of this club.

Donaghadee based Ken was 84 and fuller tributes to one of our All-Time greats will be forthcoming in due course.

The Linfield team will wear black armbands at Saturday's home game against Glenavon and there will be a minutes silence prior to the kick off, in honour of and by way of tribute to the popular right back who signed for Linfield in 1954.

He was one of a select group of immortal Seven Trophy legends to win all seven medals in that never to be repeated, unforgettable season by a legendary Linfield team.

He was honoured with a benefit season in 1964/65 which included a testimonial game against Leeds and he was released by the club on April 20, 1970, shortly after he secured his third Irish Cup winners medal after a 2-1 win against Ballymena at Solitude.

The Linfield Life Member won 5 Irish league winners medals in a Linfield career spanning more than 400 appearances.

Funeral details will be provided when they are known.

The deepest sympathy and most sincere condolences of everyone at Linfield FC are conveyed to Ken’s daughter Tacita, grand daughter Lisa and son in law Gary at this very sad time.
