The funeral service of the Seven Trophy Winning Legend Ken Gilliland took place at Donaghadee parish church on Wednesday afternoon.
The service was a lovely send off and fitting tribute to a full and active life, well lived by the former Linfield defender who made more than 500 appearances for his one and only club between 1956 and 1970.
In attendance was the Queens Island male voice choir which Ken was a member of and from the pulpit, appropriate recognition was given to Ken’s significant contribution to numerous Linfield trophy successes over many years.
Linfield was represented at the service by former players Eric Bowyer, Alan Fraser, Billy Sinclair and Dessie Cathcart, as well as former chairman Jim Kerr, honorary secretary Andy Conn and director Stephen Shaw.
There will be a minutes silence before Saturday’s Windsor park game and the Linfield team will wear black armbands in honour of one of the immortal 1961/62 Seven Trophy Winning Legends of this club.
Saturday’s issue of Look at Linfield will feature Ken Gilliland on the front cover.
