Chairman’s update on Linfield memorial in Somme region

Posted : 3rd April 2020 at 17:33:56

Despite the current restrictions in place across Europe, I am pleased to report that some initial progress has been made in relation to the construction of a Linfield War Memorial in the Somme region of France.

We have reached agreement with a French builder who will construct the Memorial In the village of Bertrancourt. Initial work has now taken place to clear the site, as pictured. The next stage will involve the laying of foundations on the site before the construction can commence. All of this work is of course subject to ongoing restrictions in France but we are indebted to our friends in the area who are working closely with the club to make the Linfield Memorial a reality.

Whilst we are still working towards a potential unveiling date in August 2020, this is subject to change due to the current public health crisis. We will keep supporters advised of further progress and we would wish thank all of those who have donated so generously to this project.

We would also wish to convey thanks to former player Lee Doherty from Doherty Architects who has provided important support in getting detailed drawings and specifications completed.
