Over the past few weeks Linfieldfc.com has launched a new ‘Monday morning memory lane’ feature in which we focus on two separate photos and the interesting story behind the photos.

Increasingly, over the coming weeks there will be a European theme to this feature and in the first of today’s two photos we reflect on a photo, as the players set off for a European tie in Norway in October 1966.

A few weeks ago we featured a photo with Linfield players boarding the plane bound for Luxembourg and a first round tie and this time it’s a similar photo with the team heading off to Oslo for the second round game.

European cup 2nd round 1st leg

October 26, 1966

Valarengen 1 Linfield 4

Linfield goals were scored by Bryan Hamilton, Phil Scott, Sammy Pavis and an Arthur Thomas penalty.

The team line up was - McFaul, Gilliland, Patterson, Gregg, Hatton, Leishman, Thomas, Hamilton, Pavis, Scott and Shields.

Linfield drew the return game 1-1 on November 8 with Arthur Thomas again on the scoresheet.

It meant that in March 1967 Linfield faced CSKA Sofia of Bulgaria in the Quarter final of the European Champions Cup. After a 2-2 draw at Windsor Park, Linfield exited the competition after a 1-0 reverse in the Bulgarian capital
