Linfield record pleasing 2-0 League win at Seaview

Linfield came away from Seaview with a pleasing 2-0 win in the second league game of the new season.

Linfield controlled the opening 20 minutes without being able to make the breakthrough but then Crusaders enjoyed a 15 minute spell where they created a few opportunities and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions,

Linfield took an 38th minute lead when the ball broke to defender Kelsie Burrows and she smashed home a great strike from just inside the box.

Two minutes later Kirsty McGuinness got on the end of a deep Megan Bell cross but her header found the arms of the home keeper.

Linfield doubled their advantage after 42 minutes - this time it was a Kirsty McGuinness free kick that was headed into the far bottom corner by Megan Bell.

In the second half Linfield created numerous opportunities but couldn’t add to the score due to stubborn resistance from the home defence and keeper.

On 48 minutes a Megan Bell left wing cross was turned into her own crossbar by a home defender but the loose ball was cleared,

Captain Kirsty McGuinness shot just over the bar on 50 minutes and in the 54th minute a brilliant passing move from deep within Linfield’s own half ended with a shot by Kirsty McGuinness again just clearing the crossbar.

Rebecca McKenna was a 58th minute sub for young Mia Fitzsimmons and on the hour mark a Linfield corner was turned onto the post and Louise McDaniel’s follow up effort was cleared off the line.

On 65 minutes Louise McDaniel lobbed just over the bar following a left wing Kirsty McGuinness cross.

A few minutes later McDaniel drove forward from midfield but dragged her shot just wide of the post.

With 10 minutes remaining Casey Howe and Rebecca Bassett replaced Louise McDaniel and Caitlin McGuinness.

On 88 minutes a terrific Megan Bell shot brought out the best of the home keeper who pulled off a fine save, pushing the ball behind for a corner.
