Thrilling Big Two Derby win for Linfield

Linfield won tonight’s Big Two Derby game 3-0 away to Glentoran at Ulidia following an all round excellent team performance which put Linfield top of the table with 3 wins from the opening 3 league games.

Linfield started brightly against a strong Glentoran team.

The hosts came close to taking the lead after 10 minutes but thankfully, the ball cannoned back to safety off the crossbar.

Linfield came close to an opener when fine skill from Caitlin McGuinness ended with a low goal bound shot being pushed behind for a corner by Higgins in the Glentoran goal.

Linfield were rewarded for the enterprising opening when a right wing Kirsty McGuinness corner fell kindly for Louise McDaniel to flick the ball home from close range.

On 40 minutes Linfield doubled the advantage when 16 year old Enniskillen girl Casey Howe fired home into the corner of the net from the edge of the box.

The crossbar came to Linfield’s rescue again in the second half as the hosts pressed to gain a foothold back in the game.

Megan Bell came close to extending Linfield’s lead with a terrific shot from 25 yards that was just centimetres over the angle of crossbar and post.

On 80 minutes Linfield scored the 3rd goal that had been threatened throughout the half. A terrific pinpoint right wing cross from 16 year old Caitlin McGuinness was met at the back post by the onrushing Kelsie Burrows and she drove the ball home to seal a most impressive win in the opening Big Two Derby game of the season.

A super all round team performance with several stand out individual performances.
