Linfield record pleasing win at New Midgley Park

Linfield recorded a pleasing 5-0 League victory against Cliftonville at New Midgley park on Wednesday night.

Enniskillen’s Casey Howe celebrated her 17th birthday at the start of the month and she set Linfield on the road to victory, with goals on the half hour and hour mark, before further strikes from Rebecca Bassett, Kirsty McGuinness (penalty) and Rebecca McKenna rounded off the hard fought victory.

Linfield took the lead on 28 minutes - a tantalising left wing cross by Kirsty McGuinness was met by Casey Howe at the back post and under pressure from visiting defenders, she bundled the ball home, with the referees ruling that the ball had crossed the line.

Casey doubled Linfield’s lead on 59 minutes - a low right wing cross by Caitlin McGuinness found Rebecca Bassett and while the keeper saved her first time strike, Casey Howe was on hand to fire the rebound into the unguarded net, to ease Linfield nerves.

Linfield added a third on 67 minutes, with Rebecca Bassett chipping a low right wing cross over the visiting keeper with a delightful finish.

Kirsty McGuinness was fouled in the box after 70 minutes and she stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot to put Linfield 4-0 ahead.

Linfield completed the scoring in the 84th minute - a low shot by Kirsty McGuinness was parried by the Cliftonville keeper but only into the path of Rebecca McKenna and she blasted the ball home to seal a pleasing 5-0 win.
