Linfield 1 Glenavon 0

In the expansive terrain of Crumlin Leisure centre Linfield took on their Mid Ulster rivals in a bid to move themselves up the competitive Youth League table. The wee Blues bossed the game from the first whistle, keeping possession well and creating chances at will. First opportunity came to live wire striker Aaron Brown who narrowly missed the target on 12 minutes, followed by Darren Hyland striking past the post when well-placed eight minutes later. A back three of Peter Bell, Trai Hume and Lee Bailie repelled anything that Glenavon threw at them but were equally adept at starting attacks which they did on a regular basis. With the half time whistle due, it was Linfield who took the lead when energetic Mark Green crossed for Joe Shevlin to pounce and score from 12 yards.

The second half went much like the first with Linfield dominating proceedings with Cai Gemmill, Ross Weatherup and Callum McVeigh dominating possession, ably assisted by wing backs Hyland and Green who both had fine games. Chances came and went for the Windsor boys with Shevlin, McVeigh and Weatherup all going close but they were unable to add to their tally. In the dying embers of the game Scott Pengelly made a fine save to ensure Linfield took all three points home.

Overall, an excellent performance from a young Linfield team who if more clinical in the final third, would have scored the goals their display deserved.
