Report
Linfield’s long unbeaten League run, which stretched back to December 1, came to an end tonight as they were made to pay for missed chances against Glenavon at Mourneview Park.

Conditions were fierce at Mourneview with a strong wind and rain but the game belonged to Glenavon goalkeeper Johnny Tuffey who made countless top class saves.

Jordan Stewart was first to be thwarted by Tuffey when he found space to the right side of the box. Attacker Stewart tried to catch the goalkeeper out with a shot from the angle but Tuffey reacted superbly to get a strong outstretched arm to push the shot over the crossbar.

Kyle McClean also went close when Kearns slipped him in but the midfielder’s low strike was brilliantly tipped around the post by Tuffey.

And the former Linfield man was at it again with another great save to push Chris Casement’s 25 yard free-kick away from the top corner.

Glenavon had chances of their own on the counter attack. Most of their attacks revolved around Josh Daniels and the winger drilled a shot just wide after being found by the surging Marron up from the back.

Daniels also tried his luck with a low shot, this time from the right hand side, but Jimmy Callacher deflected his shot just past the post for a corner which mounted to nothing.

Half Time: Glenavon 0 – 0 Linfield

Glenavon, with the wind at their backs, made a dream start to the second half. Within two minutes of the restart, the Lurgan Blues found themselves ahead when Aaron Harmon drove into space before firing a rasping strike into the corner of the net from distance.

A golden chance dropped Linfield’s way midway through the second half when Waterworth was able to turn in the area but his low strike struck the post.

Chris Casement was denied as Linfield searched for a leveller. The full back raced onto a Kearns pass and unleashed a half-volley but Tuffey, yet again, came up trumps in goal.

Substitute striker Marek Cervenka also missed a good chance after going through one-on-one but the outstanding Tuffey came to Glenavon’s rescue once again.

Glenavon made sure of their win on 86 minutes when Josh Daniels took advantage of a defensive mistake to race in and fire a low shot beyond Gareth Deane.

Full Time: Glenavon 2 – 0 Linfield
