The York Star Linfield Supporters Club held its 40th Anniversary Dinner and Player of the Year Awards Night at the Monkstown Social Club in Newtownabbey on Saturday evening.

York Star LSC was established in 1979 and Club Chairman John Aiken commenced proceedings with an entertaining account of the club’s history and its eventful journey from McCann’s public house on York Street to its current home in Whitehouse Working Men’s Club on the Shore Road.

John then introduced Linfield Chairman and York Star Vice-President Roy McGivern who conducted the Player of the Year awards, sponsored by 365 Taxis. The York Star Player of the Year award for 2018/19 was presented to Jordan Stewart and the Young Player of the Year trophy was awarded to Stephen Fallon. A special award was also presented to inspirational club captain Jamie Mulgrew in recognition of his seven league title medals.

Presentations were also made to York Star President Eric Ashe, members of the Club Committee who assisted with arrangements for the event, to official Linfield FC photographer Colin McMaster and to Mona Rankin. The York Star club also recognised other supporters clubs in attendance at the event including Bangor LSC, Belfast Linfield Ladies and Monkstown True Blues.

It was a superb evening at the Monkstown Social Club with a great meal provided by Pat’s Kitchen. Those in attendance included Linfield Directors Roy McGivern, Andrew Conn and Stephen Dickson, players Jordan Stewart, Jamie Mulgrew, Stephen Fallon and Andrew Mitchell and staff members Ross Oliver, Darren Murphy, Gary Eccles and Jamesy Robertson. A number of former players were also in attendance including Isaac Andrews, Wes Lamont, Noel Bailie MBE, Alan Dornan, Glenn Ferguson, John Easton, Lee Doherty, David Larmour and Peter Thompson.

York Star LSC would like to thank all of those who attended the function to join with them in celebrating both the club’s 40th anniversary and Linfield’s 53rd league title success. The club would also thank John, Hayleigh and all the staff at Monkstown Social Club who looked after us so well on Saturday night.

A fundraising ballot raised £150 for the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice and the money will be presented to the official charity of Linfield FC in the coming days.

Colin McMaster photos of the event will be added to Linfieldfc.com in due course.
