Niall Quinn delighted with contract extension

Posted : 24th December 2014

Niall Quinn expresses his delight at having signed a 2 year contract extension.

"I'm absolutely delighted to have signed a new contract with the club. I didn't have to think twice about the offer when it was put to me, as this is the only club I wanted to be at. Once the contract was put on the table, I signed it immediately.

It's great to have my future sorted out, as it means I can focus totally on my football, without any distraction. It was an easy decision for me to make and I'm delighted that the gaffer and board have shown faith and belief in me, by offering me this extended contract.

I joined Linfield when I was 16 and I've always loved it here. I really enjoyed my time coming through the ranks of the Academy and the Swifts. It's been great that Ross Clarke and the Glendinning brothers have come through the youth structure together with me to the first team squad.

I'm delighted for Ross Clarke and Ross Glendinning that they've been rewarded with new contracts at the same time as me. It shows all our young players that there is a pathway from the youth teams to the first team squad. We have other young players like TJ Murray, Dale Patton, Rodney Brown and a few others coming through and the gaffer has already shown that he'll give young players their chance, if they're good enough. That can only serve as an inspiration to our young players here that they can work their way up through the various under age teams.

The changing room here is buzzing at the minute and we just want to keep our good run going as long as we possibly can. It was a really important and deserved win for us against a very strong Portadown team on Saturday and we know we'll face another massive test when Glentoran come here on Boxing Day. They'll be buzzing too after a great result for them on Saturday, so we'll have to be right on top of our game, if we're to get the positive result we want.

We want to push on and keep up the momentum we've built up in recent games. All the lads have worked hard in training today and we're all fully focused on tying to put on a good show to come up with the right result for what's sure to be a big crowd on Boxing Day. We all hope our supporters have a really good Christmas and we'll be trying our best to get a win to make everybody happy on Boxing Day."
