David Healy - delighted Jamie Mulgrew has agreed new 2 year contract

Posted : 10th February 2018

David Healy announces important news of a contract extension for the Linfield captain.

"I'm delighted that on this most special day, I can advise our supporters that our inspirational club captain, Jamie Mulgrew has agreed and signed a new two year contract extension which will take effect upon the expiry of his existing contract at the end of the season.

In midweek, Jamie joined an exclusive, elite group of Linfield Legends who've all played 500 games for this club and this two year contract extension will give him the opportunity to aim higher than the 500 mark he reached in Warrenpoint on Tuesday night.

To a select group of Linfield Greats - Noel Bailie MBE (1013), Alex Russell and Tommy Dickson (both over 600), William Murphy (639), George Dunlop (570) and Glenn Ferguson (515), we can now add the name Jamie Mulgrew (500 Not Out).

Before today's Windsor Park game, the Linfield chairman Roy McGivern will make an official presentation to Jamie on behalf of this club to honour Jamie, his service and his loyalty but especially to celebrate his terrific achievement of playing 500 games for this wonderful club.

Similarly, Umbro hold Jamie in such high esteem that their representative Howard Solomon is flying in from England today to make a special presentation to our club captain who they sponsor and value.

I know that during and after these well deserved presentations our players, staff, directors and supporters will give Jamie the wonderful reception he deserves.

It's entirely fitting and appropriate therefore that on this most special of days we should announce that Jamie has agreed a new 2 year contract extension to keep him at the club he has served with great distinction since his debut in August 2005.

Jamie is a tremendous and hugely positive influence at this club, on the pitch and off the pitch. He's a leader and a winner as well as a tremendous role model for our young players to aspire to follow in his footsteps.

Jamie epitomises what being a Linfield player should always be about - ability, attitude, dignity, service, loyalty, commitment, humility and a burning desire to win.

I'm delighted he's agreed to commit to this club for two more years and I know his only focus is on winning more games and more trophies for the club he loves.

I know this news will be greeted with universal approval by our supporters so I'm looking forward to today's game and an opportunity for us ALL to salute and pay tribute to Jamie Mulgrew - 500 Linfield games, 6 League Winners medals, 6 Irish Cup Winners medals, Two County Antrim Shield Winners medals, One League Cup Winners medal AND a well deserved new Two year contract extension."
