Ryan McGivern - “delighted to sign for Linfield”

Posted : 23rd July 2018

Ryan McGivern spoke with Linfieldfc.com shortly after signing a 3 year contract at Windsor Park today.

“I’m delighted to sign for Linfield today and I’m glad to have my future settled, ahead of the new season.

I know all about Linfield and all I want to do is to help the club be successful. It’s a great challenge for me to help the club get back to winning trophies which is what the supporters here want and expect.

I’m really happy to have signed for what is the biggest club in the country and to play home games in such a fine stadium that I know very well.

Of course, the manager was a big influence in me signing, as I was fortunate to have played alongside him in a few international games. I know him well and respect him greatly and I’m really looking forward to working with him and his coaches.

This is a great opportunity for me to continue my career in my home country and it just feels the time is right for me to come home, after a number of years playing across the water. I enjoyed my time in England and Scotland and benefited greatly from all my experience but I just feel this move is the right move for me at this stage of my career.

I’m hungry to win trophies and I really believe this move will help me achieve that aim.

The timing is just right for me and I can’t wait to get started. I had a few offers to stay in England or to go abroad but I feel good about coming home and this club is where I want to be. The 3 year contract is great from my point of view and I just want to make a significant contribution to get us back where I feel the club belongs.

I also want to pay tribute to Willie McKeown, a good family friend who played a key role in bringing me to the club. Willie has guided and influenced my football career since the age of 10 and he’s someone I trust and respect greatly. I want to thank him for his assistance and advice and both he and I think this is the right move for me.

I know this League is a demanding league but the hard work starts for me now to prove I am worthy of the faith the manager and the chief scout have shown in me.”
