Several days before Linfield’s recent home Premiership game against Newry City, defender Ross Larkin revealed that he was intending to take part in the upcoming Belfast marathon, to help raise funds for Brainwaves NI.
After the Newry City game, David Healy paid tribute to the inspirational courage and determination of the 23 year old and encouraged Linfield and other supporters to donate, if possible, to assist Ross with his fundraising efforts, in support of a most worthwhile cause and appeal.

News item and fundraising link dated March 17
Just before Christmas 2021, Linfield central defender Ross Larkin underwent major surgery for a serious life threatening illness.
Since then, Ross has responded positively to the skill and treatment from the expert medical professionals who’ve cared for him, as he fought to recover from the serious condition that befell him unexpectedly and without warning.
Throughout his long road to recovery after the major surgery, Ross has received regular support and encouragement from Linfield manager David Healy and his staff, as well as his former playing team mates.
Ross has been a regular at Windsor Park, both on match days and at training and his drive and motivation to recover, has been a major source of inspiration to everyone at the club.
In recent times, Ross has resumed light training at the club but he has 2 major new targets to aim for, as he continues on his road to recovery.
Ross intends to take part in the Belfast marathon on April 30 and the inspirational Newry man wants to raise money to help a brain charity to care for others who’ve suffered as he has done.
To date, his fundraising appeal has raised in excess of £5000 in aid of Brainwaves NI and a number of Linfield supporters can be counted among those who have already generously donated.
The willpower, courage and dignity Ross has displayed, to fight back from major surgery and now, seek to help others suffering from a similar plight, is absolutely inspirational and no doubt, many other Linfield supporters will want to follow the link below, to show their practical support for this most worthwhile fundraising effort by an exceptional young man.
