The next couple of seasons will mark significant anniversaries in the proud and illustrious history of Linfield Football Club and the club will aim to mark these landmarks in an appropriate manner.
The upcoming 2020/21 season will mark the 15th anniversary of the 2005/06 Clean Sweep season.
Linfield won the League Cup in December and then early in the New Year the County Antrim Shield was secured against Ballymena at Seaview. After winning the League title, the Clean Sweep was sealed with 2 Peter Thompson goals in the Big Two Irish Cup Final.
The following 2021/22 season will mark major Clean Sweep anniversary milestones in the history of this club.
The 2021/22 season will be the Centenary season of the first ever Seven Trophy Winning Clean Sweep team of 1921/22.
And the same 2021/22 season will mark the 60th anniversary of the second and last Seven Trophy Winning Clean Sweep team of 1961/62.
Only 4 legends remain from the 1961/62 Seven Trophy Winning team - goalkeeper Bobby Irvine, Isaac Andrews, Billy Wilson and Hubert Barr and they and their former team mates achieved immortality when they clinched the Clean Sweep by beating Portadown in a League decider play off against Portadown at Solitude on May 17, 1962.
Plans are being drawn up to celebrate these huge anniversary milestones in the history of this club.
One of the plans involves the publication of a ‘Seven Trophy Clean Sweep Anniversary Season‘ book recalling the achievements of the legends of 1921/22 and 1961/62.
Supporters, supporters clubs and businesses may wish to assist in the publication of the book by inserting a tribute message or advertisement and anyone wanting to do so is asked to email email@example.com
