In September 1970 Linfield were building up to momentous European Cup Winners Cup ties against the then cup holders Manchester City, a star studded team including City legends Corrigan, Lee, Summerbee and Bell.
As Linfieldfc.com builds up towards the 50th anniversary of the huge games, we look back at how Linfield prepared for the historic European games, the only time Linfield have been drawn against an English club in European competition.
On this September 5 date in 1970 Linfield won 2-1 in a home Ulster Cup group game against Glenavon.
Eric Magee scored both goals in a competition where each of the teams played each other once on a league basis, as a forerunner to the start of the league campaign.
Linfield lined up as follows on this September 5 date exactly 50 years ago today.
This was the 7th group game on the way to Linfield winning the Ulster Cup.
