The season ahead should mark the 50th season of ‘Look at Linfield’, the official match day magazine of Linfield Football Club.
Issue 1 of Volume 50 has been completed for the upcoming Europa League 2nd qualifying round, home tie against Floriana of Malta on Thursday September 17.
UEFA regulations require all games to be staged behind closed doors, due to restrictions arising from the corona virus pandemic and so with no spectators in attendance on match night, the programme will not be on sale before the home game against Floriana, as would normally be the case.
However, supporters won’t have to miss out, as this souvenir programme will go on sale from the Windsor Superstore from Tuesday afternoon (September 8), priced £3.
European issues of ‘Look at Linfield’ are always big sellers, as supporters seek souvenirs of some of the really special occasions in this club’s proud history.
This issue is expected to be no different and supporters are asked to back the club, by buying this programme from the Superstore over the period of a week in advance of the game which will see a return of European action to Windsor Park, albeit in unprecedented behind closed doors, single leg tie circumstances.
And this issue will contain a special free 8 page insert supplement.
September 30 will mark the 50th anniversary of this club’s famous 2-1 European Cup Winners‘ Cup win over the then Cup holders, Manchester City.
To mark this special anniversary of a famous Windsor Park game watched by over 24 000 fans, the official programme of this historic game has been reprinted and will be inserted inside each copy of the Linfield v Floriana match night programme.
It’s a unique, appropriate and lovely souvenir of the 50th anniversary of this club’s most famous win against a star studded City team featuring their legends of Corrigan, Bell, Summerbee and Lee.
The 8 page insert is sure to be a much sought after souvenir and the only way to get your copy is by buying a copy of the Linfield v Floriana match programme from the Windsor Superstore from Tuesday afternoon.
To comply with modern government advertising regulations, the back page of the City programme has had to be changed but the special souvenir insert will be a lovely keep sake of the night when Billy Millen’s two goals raised the profile of this club across the continent, by almost eliminating the Cup holders and English giants from the competition at the first hurdle.
It was a night when Billy Millen wrote his name into the history of our club as one of our immortals and his extraordinary feat was recognised recently when this club bestowed the honour of Life Membership on the former Linfield forward who’s been resident in Sydney, Australia for several years.
The main 32 page Linfield v Floriana programme will include the usual features

Getting football back to what we know as normal is not happening overnight and there will unfortunately, be major doubts as to whether Linfield can produce match programmes for domestic games without a significant percentage of supporters in attendance.
However, in what should be a special 50th anniversary year for ‘Look at Linfield’, you can buy a copy of Issue 1 to mark this special one off game against Floriana.
Let’s hope we will also get the opportunity to produce an Issue 2 for a third qualifying round tie a week later.
