Linfield FC mourns the sad passing of Dessie Cathcart

Linfield FC reports with deep sorrow and profound regret the sad passing this morning of former Linfield left winger, Dessie Cathcart.

Dessie was aged 74 and he played for Linfield in over 300 games between 1967 and 1973.

He was one of the stars of the legendary Linfield team which won 2-1 against Manchester City at Windsor Park in the European Cup Winners Cup in September 1970 but were eliminated on the away goals rule.

Fuller tributes will be forthcoming on this website later today.

The deepest sympathy and most sincere condolences of everyone at Linfield FC are extended to the family circle at this very sad and difficult time.

30th April 2021. Peacefully at hospital. Late of Gransha Road, Bangor. Dearly loved husband of Anne, much loved father of Emma and partner Noel and the late Leighton, loving grandfather of Connor and Olivia.

Sadly due to the current public health crisis, the funeral will be private and restricted to a small family gathering.
