The Merit award for the 2020-21 season, kindly provided and sponsored by former Linfield director Ronnie Morrison, has been awarded to Linfield Trustee Paul Weir.
This hugely prestigious award was introduced several years ago, as a means of recognising loyal club stalwarts and previous winners have included Andy Kerr MBE, Billy Kennedy, Colin McMaster and Terry Hayes.
The beautiful engraved trophy was presented to Paul Weir by Linfield President Peter Lunn MBE.
Peter Lunn paid tribute to the service of his board room colleague who first joined the board in 1985 and who has served the club admirably in a variety of roles including Treasurer, Chairman of the Team committee and club representative to the Irish League.
Paul has always been closely associated with Linfield Swifts over the years and indeed is not just a regular attender at their games but also many other games involving the younger Linfield academy teams.
Upon receiving the award Paul Weir expressed surprise but delight at having been honoured by the nominations panel and he passed on his congratulations to the players, staff and management for their terrific achievement in winning the 25th League and Cup double in the club’s proud history.
