Linfield won the 56th Irish League title in the club’s proud history on a memorable Windsor Park evening on Saturday.

The league success clinched a ‘4 in a row’ triumph for only the second time in the club’s history - the only previous one being a ‘6 in a row’ between 1981-82 and 1986-87.

Linfield won 24, drew 11 and lost only 3 of the 38 league games in a fiercely competitive campaign.

The 3 defeats were at Crusaders in November (1-2), at Coleraine in January (0-3) and at Glentoran in February (0-1).

Linfield lost fewer league games than any other team.

On March 4, Linfield won 2-1 away to Carrick, to go top of the league and David Healy’s team stayed top throughout March and the post split games in April, to clinch the title on the final day.

Linfield’s tally of 67 league goals was bettered only by Glentoran (68) and the total of 24 goals conceded was the fewest in the league. Linfield’s goal difference of plus 43 was the best in the league.

Linfield’s points tally of 83 held off a fierce challenge from Cliftonville who finished second with 82 points.
