Congratulations are extended on behalf of everyone at Linfield FC to the players, manager, coaches and backroom staff at the club, following their superb achievement in clinching the Danske Bank NIFL 2021-22 Premiership title.

The players, manager and staff deserve immense credit for their considerable efforts over the course of a long and demanding campaign.

Saturday’s success in retaining the Premiership title was a joyous occasion that has been rightly and deservedly celebrated by everyone at the club and the players and staff now deserve their well earned break to relax, recover and recharge their batteries.

The images of the players celebrating with the Gibson cup trophy will live long in the memory and form part of the pictorial history of this great club.

Cliftonville pushed this club very hard and they deserve immense praise for a formidable challenge that went right to the wire.

Just as Liverpool and Man City seem to be matching each other, result for result, in the Premiership title run in, Linfield and Cliftonville matched each other in a similar close title run in the Danske Bank NIFL Premiership.

Thankfully, Linfield held their nerve in the closing stages of what was a hard fought, fiercely competitive and incredibly tense title run in, to secure the League trophy for an incredible 4th season in a row and a world record 56th time in the proud and distinguished history of this club and institution.

The challenges the manager, staff and players faced over the course of the season were considerable but the success that was sealed on Saturday was deserved and fitting reward for all the sacrifices and efforts that were made throughout the year.

The Danske Bank Premiership has never been stronger with considerable strength in depth all the way down the league table and in a first year of a new full time model, it's been very pleasing for Linfield to finish on top of what is a very strong league table.

The players showed significant mental strength, resilience and character, as well as considerable skill, to navigate the minefield of the tight and nervy post split fixtures and fend off the challenge of a close contender breathing down their necks and waiting to take advantage of, and exploit one potentially fatal slip up.

The supporters played their part in willing the players over the line in the decisive end of season games and the club has been delighted and humbled to receive numerous congratulatory messages from within and outside the club.

The noise as the players emerged for Saturday's game and the sea of colour from the flags that were put in place, all added to the sense of occasion and hopefully, inspired the players on to achieve the historic success that everyone in attendance was able to enjoy on Saturday.

As enjoyable as Saturday was as the culmination of a long season's hard work, this club does not stand still and soon, attention will shift quickly to all that a new season entails.

While everyone at the club savours the success that was secured on Saturday, thoughts are starting to turn to the Champions League draw on June 14 and who our first round opponents are likely to be in the first leg on July 5-6 and second leg on July 12-13.

For now, congratulations to the players, management, coaches, staff and players for a magnificent league title success and thank you to all the supporters who contributed in numerous ways to the club’s success over the past year.
