Linfield train at Skonto stadium

Linfield trained at the Skonto stadium in Riga last night ahead of tonight’s Conference League play off round first leg tie against RFS of Latvia.

It’s a grass pitch in a 7000 seater stadium where Derry City were defeated by another Riga team earlier this summer and weather conditions since Linfield arrived in Latvia have been very warm.

It’s only the second time Linfield will have faced Latvian opponents. In 2005 Linfield defeated Ventspils 1-0 at Windsor Park and although the Latvians won the return leg 2-1, Linfield progressed to the next round courtesy of the away goals rule.

The winner of this tie between RFS and Linfield will progress to the group stages of the UEFA Conference League. RFS have advised that there is no match programme published for tonight’s game.
