At Saturday night’s Gala awards presentation night at the Europa Hotel in Belfast city centre, one of the trophy presentations was the Goal of the Season award.
Jamie Mulgrew received the Goal of the Season award from Linfield vice-chairman Stephen Dickson.
The goal was Jamie’s only goal of the season but what a strike it was in the 4th minute of injury time, to take Linfield’s Champions League 1st round second leg tie against the New Saints into extra time, when Ethan Devine added a winner to take Linfield into a second round tie against Bodo Glimt.
Jamie’s goal was Linfield’s first in a long season which produced 106 goals across 60 competitive fixtures and it was the second time in recent years that the first goal of the season ended up being voted Goal of the Season.
Several years ago, a Jordan Stewart goal against La Fiorita of San Marino was Linfield’s first goal of the season and it too ended up being voted Goal of the Season.
