One of the trophy presentations at Saturday night’s Gala awards event at the Europa hotel in Belfast city centre was the Bobby Braithwaite memorial Young player of the year award.
The award is named in honour of the Seven Trophy winning legend Bobby Braithwaite and appropriately, it was presented 4 days before the 61st anniversary of the clinching of the Seven Trophy success on May 17, 1962 when Linfield won the Irish League in a play off against Portadown at Solitude.
The trophy, presented to the club by Bobby Braithwaite’s son Paul in the shape of a glass map of Africa (where Bobby lived in latter life), was presented to Chris McKee by Linfield manager David Healy.
The beautiful glass trophy remains in the Windsor Park trophy cabinet but Chris McKee was also presented with an engraved keepsake award (kindly provided by Ronnie Morrison) by the Linfield manager David Healy at last night’s awards presentation function at the Europa Hotel.
