Linfield Ladies got their Danske Bank NIFL Premiership campaign off to a winning start with a 3-0 win against Sion Swifts at New Midgley Park this evening.

Linfield had penalty claims turned down by the referee around the half hour mark when Rebecca Bassett appeared to be bundled over inside the box by a visiting defender.
A few minutes later Linfield took the lead - a left wing cross by Louise McFrederick was flicked on by Rebecca Bassett and Alison Smyth was on the spot to convert from close range, to give Linfield the 38th minute advantage their play had deserved.

Nicole Adams came to Linfield’s rescue early in the second half denying the Sion number 9 who was through on a one on one with the Linfield keeper.
Naomi Donnan came close to extending Linfield’s lead but she shot wide of the far post from a tight angle.
Linfield continued to create chances in a lively opening league display and the second goal duly arrived courtesy of an own goal on 55 minutes.
A right wing corner by Victoria Carleton was diverted into her own net by the Sion keeper under pressure from Rebecca Bassett.
Soon after it was 3-0 when Alison Smyth was upended in the box and she got up to convert the resultant penalty award after 63 minutes.
Linfield continued to carve further openings with Smyth’s header saved low at the post by the keeper and Rebecca McKenna bursting through the defence, only to see her shot go just the wrong side of the post.
Substitutions saw Leckey and Dickson introduced in place of Smyth and Morgan (73 mins) with debutante Lucy Johnston taking the place of Rebecca Bassett (86 mins).
