Extra time heartache for Linfield at Seaview

Posted : 18th June 2021 at 23:09:58

Linfield exited the County Antrim FA Cup after extra time at Seaview tonight.

Emily Wilson gave the home side the lead in the opening minutes with a fine strike from the edge of the box.

However, Katie Dickson equalised after 37 minutes with an equally fine strike from the edge of the box.

In an entertaining end to to end game there were chances for both sides to win but there was no further score after 90 minutes so the tie went to extra time.

Deep into the second period of extra time Crusaders took the lead with a fine strike by McGovern. Julie Nelson increased the home teams lead with a fierce strike.

Rebecca McKenna was upended in the box and with the last kick of the game she stroked home the resultant penalty kick.

A fine spirited performance by a very youthful Linfield side against their more experienced opponents.

Sienna Leckey replaced Katie Dickson and Rhyleigh Marks made her debut in place of Ebony Leckey.

Final score - Crusaders 3 Linfield 2
