Linfield Ladies can confirm that star international midfielder Rebecca McKenna has signed a professional contract with East Sussex based Lewes FC, who compete in the FA Women’s Championship, and will complete her transfer today before flying out on Thursday to join up with her new teammates.
Rebecca, in her four seasons at the club has developed into a wonderfully talented player and deservedly a senior international.
Arriving as a shy teenager she has grown into a fantastic role model for our younger players. The development in Rebecca’s game over the last 18 months has been exciting to watch. Equally comfortable in defence or midfield, her drive and energy to improve and succeed on the pitch is a shining example to everyone.
The raw emotion etched on her face after scoring on Monday night says everything playing for this club meant to her. In recent months she has taken over the captaincy after Ashley Hutton’s injury. Manager Phil Lewis had no hesitation giving her the job.
“Rebecca is highly respected by every player and staff member at the club. She leads by example and her encouragement and support of our younger players has been immense in what has been a challenging season to date”
Rebecca leaves the club with numerous league titles and cup wins in her locker but it is her development and drive to succeed that shines brightest. An outstanding player and leader but more importantly an outstanding young woman who we wish every success in her future career. We look forward to watching her journey and are privileged to have been a part of her journey this far.
Good luck Rebecca.
