Over the past few weeks, large numbers of supporters tuned in to and enjoyed As Live re-run broadcasts of Linfield’s post split league games from 3 years ago - against Ballymena, Glenavon, Coleraine and Cliftonville and the Irish Cup final against Coleraine.
Linfieldfc.com is now delighted to announce the next As Live re-run broadcast and one which will please supporters who’ve been missing their football, due to these unprecedented circumstances we have all found ourselves in over the past few months, as a result of the corona virus pandemic.
15 years ago - on May 21, 2005 - Linfield won the inaugural Setanta Cup final, defeating Shelbourne 2-0 at Tolka park in Dublin.
It’s a famous game that most supporters who were in attendance recall as one of their favourite memories following Linfield and it’s a result that was to act as a springboard to a momentous 2005/06 season in which Linfield won the domestic Clean Sweep of Irish Premier League, Irish Cup, League Cup and County Antrim Shield trophies.
Eir sports / Setanta have kindly provided the original match footage and commentary of the game to Linfield tv for the game to be broadcast live on the official Linfield media channel.
The game may have been played on May 21, 2005 but the game will be broadcast As Live on the equivalent Saturday evening which will be on May 23, 2020.
Kick off in the As Live re-run broadcast will be at 7.30pm next Saturday - just as it was on that never to be forgotten evening ‘in Dublin’s fair city‘ 15 years ago.
In the build up to next Saturday’s broadcast Linfield official media hopes to feature Lockdown home videos from several of the key players in the game, as they share their memories from what was a fantastic occasion in the proud and illustrious history of this famous club.
There will also be an opportunity for some supporters to share their memories of a momentous game which saw Linfield crowned Setanta All-Ireland Champions in 2005.
Enjoy the trip down memory lane with Linfield tv in the week ahead, as we build up to the huge Cup Final and make sure you tune in next Saturday evening to relive and enjoy some truly marvellous memories.
Every single one of the hundreds of Bluemen, women and children who travelled to Dublin 15 years ago are proud to boast “I was there”, when Noel Bailie went up to lift the inaugural Setanta Cup trophy on a night which will live long in the memory of everyone who was privileged to be in attendance.
