Sad news

Linfield Football Club records with sadness the passing this morning of Life Member, Stanley Wright from Ballyclare.

Stanley, a committed Blueman all his life who was proud to come from the Shankill, moved to Ballyclare to marry his wife Etta. He was a founder member of the 1st Ballyclare Linfield Supporters’ Club in 1969.

The club first met in a local bar but after a few years, Stanley realised that they needed their own premises and negotiated with a local dancehall owner to purchase the site of the current club at Abercorn Drive. He expanded the premises and with the club prospering, he was regularly seen at presentations in the Windsor Park boardroom donating thousands of pounds to the parent club.

His devotion to his beloved Linfield was rewarded in the mid 1990s when he was presented with Life Membership of Linfield FC.

Stanley was a long serving chairman of the Ballyclare LSC and his grandson is Academy scout and club member Ricky McIntyre.

Stanley will be greatly missed by everyone at Linfield who send their deepest sympathy to Etta and the family circle at this very sad time.
